Having participated in the prestigious biannual Cornwall International Male Choir Festival previously in 2011 and 2013 Synergy were travelling more in hope to compete in this years event. We had previously done well winning Best Uk Choir under 40 voices on both previous visits. However, that was a long time ago and the Synergy roll call had changed substantially and like most choirs had suffered through Covid.

A new young and outrageously talented MD (Owen McCarthy) had taken the reigns 2 years hence. With only 23 on stage Synergy had worked hard from Christmas on our competition set, determined to do well.

Cometh the day we rolled on stage at Truro Cathedral amongst the conveyor belt of many other choirs before judges all day. We had been placed in Category II for less experienced choirs, yet it was stiff competition up against the likes of all the Cornish Choirs, Dublin Welsh Male Voice Choir and Muhlau SIngers a choir from Austria. We gave everything, leaving nothing left in the tank. It was now left to the judges and we rolled on.

We had to leave after our set to go back to our hotel base in Newquay to prepare for an evening concert in Launceston. We left one member behind in case we were in the medals. Whilst we were rehearsing in our Newquay Hotel we received the call that we had won and had received a cup as best UK Choir. A clear victory with 89 points.
